IDEAnet Projects

IDEAnet is proud to host a series of collaborative project groups that are working on the development of new ideas, technologies and programs to facilitate the full inclusion of people with disabilities worldwide. IDEAnet provides each project group with a homepage containing links and tools that are customized to meet the needs of that group. Tool options include listservs, discussion forums, chat, address book and document posting.  Group members can choose to make their project pages open to all members of the community or restrict access to members of the group.

Any IDEAnet member or group of members may initiate a project, so long as they have a clear goal or deliverable related to the objectives of the Rehabilitation Services Community.  We encourage you to email sitemanager@ideanet.org to discuss your project.

Below you will find a summary of current collaborative projects, which focus on the areas of appropriate technology and education.

Members of each group can access project pages through the links on the right-side navigation bar. If you are interested in joining one of these groups, please send an email to the address listed in the project description.

Appropriate technology

Appropriate technology groups work to design technologies that will best meet the long term economic, cultural, financial and functional needs of people with disabilities in the communities where they live.

Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) on Improved Technology Access for Landmine Survivors

The Center for International Rehabilitation's RERC, which has been designated as a national center of excellence in rehabilitation engineering by the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), develops and disseminates wheelchairs, artificial limbs, production methodologies and accompanying educational materials that are designed to be deployed in low income and mine-affected regions.

Project on International Guidelines for Wheelchair Provision

This project focuses on the development and implementation of international guidelines for the design and manufacture of wheelchairs in low income and conflict-affected countries. These guidelines will cover education and training, wheelchair design and service provision. The development of these guidelines will help to ensure that the needs of wheelchair users worldwide are met in a cost-effective manner.  For more information about joining this group, please send an email to wheelchairguidelines@ideanet.org.

Appropriate Technology Exhibition

The Appropriate Technology Exhibition is the place for community members to share the technologies and techniques that they feel are most effective. This space is designed to assist inventors, innovators and practitioners in disseminating their products and ideas in order to improve the services available to people with disabilities.
